AC-CENT-TCHU-ATE THE POSITIVE (Bing Crosby)

“You’ve got to accentuate the positive

eliminate the negative

Latch on to the affirmative

Don’t mess with Mister in-between

You’ve got to spread joy up to the maximum

Bring gloom down to the minimum

Have faith in pandemonium

Liable to walk upon the scene

To illustrate his last remark

Jonah in the whale, Noah in the Arc

What did they do

Just when everything looked so dark?

Man, they said, we better accentuate the positive

Eliminate the negative

Latch on to the affirmative

Don’t mess with Mr. kn-between

Do you hear me?

Oh, listen to me children and-a-you will hear

About the eliminatin’ the negative

and the accent on the positive

And gather ’round me children if you’re willin’

And sit tight while I start reviewin’

You’ve got to accentuate the positive

Eliminate the Negative

Latch on to the affirmative

Don’t mess with Mr. In-between!”

As we are once again in an Age of Transformation, we are surrounded by negative thoughts, fear of darkness and of the unknown and we at times act like chickens with their heads cut off – running around in all directions but without any sense or sight. It is easy to blame others and to filled with self-pity; to create scape-goats and to send them out into the desert to die – alone and without any hope. Somehow we feel justified and confident that if we can impose death on others, we will find life for ourselves. We fail to see that when we impose death on others, we also choose to impose death on ourselves; we are connected. It is only when we choose to be life-givers to others, that we find life within ourselves – we are connected. To be life givers is to allow the light to shine through ourselves – and to see the light in others – and then to let the light shine like a bonfire – like the Sun itself. Fear has no power over us, unless we let it. And if we let it, then we becomes slaves of fear itself. When we learn how to conquer fear and darkness, then we learn how to become filled with life. What an interesting idea in these times – which are not so different from ages that have gone before us. We are being led into the light by the Spirit that touches the world with life and we are part of the ongoing creation – always becoming – always filled with faith bound together by love.
