Not only the world, but the entire universe is pregnant with life coming to be. You and I are pregnant – we are filled with life that fills the world. Life is always changing, filled with birth of the new and death of the old and we are part of that. Life is dynamic and filled with diversity. We live in our imagination which is so often very small – and limited. We fail to see the miracle of life becoming and we fail to see the grandeur and miracle of the cosmos in which we live. So often, fear limits our vision. Jesus said to his disciples many, many times; look around! See the miracle of God’s kingdom everywhere. See the holy word of God coming alive in yourself and in one another; in all animal life; in all plant life; in all that is. The very earth is filled with life that is sacred and holy. The book of Genesis tells us that we are made in the image and likeness of God. The Gospels tell us of the word of God coming alive in human flesh. God in love with creation and becoming one with creation. To be one with God is to be conscious – and therefore free to make decisions; to choose life or death. We are therefore given the gift of awareness, but also the responsibility to care for the gift of life that surrounds us and that we are immersed in.
Jesus was aware of the presence of the Spirit of God within him; he was aware of the gift that he possessed and he saw that same gift in all others. He invited them to admit that they were blind; that they could not understand. He taught them to see – to look beyond the surface and into the depths of themselves and to experience the presence of God. He invited them to be born again; to enter into the fullness of life as a choice. He invited them to understand that to be born of the spirit was the work of God, not of man. He then invited them to understand that it is in giving up all of the addictions to the surface, is to enter into the kingdom. He taught (teaches) us that people, animal and plant life, are not things – they are not garbage to be used for our own pleasure and then simply discarded. We life on a small planet with several billion other people and we are called to proclaim the Good News that God walks with us in love and compassion, sharing with us the struggle, the pain of creation coming to be. In becoming one with creation, with humanity, we are reminded that we are sacred and holy.
Part of our humanity is found in our ability to tell stories; to share stories that speak to us of our past. These stories often help us cope with our fears of being alone, of death. We share stories to laugh and to celebrate; to light the way. The stories found in religion tell us of our oneness with God; with creation. Sadly, we often restrict ourselves to the stories of our own limited culture and we miss the stories that add to our own lives. We fail to see that the stories of all families, all cultures and times, add to the whole an expand our vision, and creates a separation or division where we have to establish that our stories are correct and all others are false or limited. We think very small and create our very small worlds and fail to see the immensity of creation unfolding all around us; we are unable to see and therefore celebrate the stories of God being present to us each and every second. God resides within the human heart, but we are to fixated on the things, such as greed for power and wealth; the approval of others; hanging on to those things that die. The Gospel message calls us to let go and to allow that Spirit of God to fill our souls with joy and peace – to quit attempting to become god and just enjoy being human.
TO ALL: A VERY BLESSED CHRISTMAS, RECOGNIZING THAT WE ARE PREGNANT WITH LIFE. MAY YOUR LIVES BE FILLED WITH THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL; YOUR LIFE AND RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS THE GIFT OF LOVE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO GIVE YOUR GIFT FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS. YOU (WE) BOTH RECEIVE AND GIVE LIFE EACH AND EVERY DAY AND NOT ALWAYS IN THE MOST OBVIOUS WAYS. THANK YOU FOR BEING GIFT TO ME AND ALLOWING ME TO BE GIFT TO YOU. TOGETHER, THE SPIRIT COMES ALIVE AND BECOMES A BLAZE OF LIGHT TO THE WORLD. GOD BLESS US ALL.
